Gerald Vernon Peoples, 96, of McArthur, died Sunday, September 6, 2009 at his residence. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the McArthur Church of The Nazarene. He was born June 4, 1913, in Austin, Ross County, Ohio, son of the late James Ansel and Nina Catherine Seymour Peoples.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Waneta Gingerall-Peoples, three sons, Delbert Kathryn Peoples of Springfield, Dennis Dixie Peoples of Legonier, Indiana and David Linda Peoples of McArthur; seven daughters, Ruth Darrell Sickels of Springfield, Judith Paul Webb of McArthur, Susan Cleveland Storms of Creola, Dorothy Rose of McArthur, Karen Charles Cox of Lucasville, Donna James Denney of McArthur and Shirley Herb Ousley of New Plymouth; one sister, Mary Haines of Washington Court House; one brother, Rodney Peoples of McArthur; stepsons and daughters, Steve and Beverly Woltz, Barbara and Donald Ross and Lana and Clyde Whitt all of Columbus, Julie and Roger Israel of Jackson and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On June 10, 1939, he was married for 62 years, to the late Bertha Mitchell Peoples. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Gertrude Flowers, Jim Peoples, Rosa Daft, Odessa Peoples, Becky Thompson, Howard Peoples and Evangeline Vickers, several grandchildren, great grandchildren and sons-in-law, Richard Bolton and Carl Rose.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, September 11, 2009 in the McArthur Church of The Nazarene, 523 N. Market St., McArthur, with Pastor Bill Roth officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Thursday, from 4-8 P.M.
