George A. Ratcliff, 77, of Chillicothe, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born December 22, 1931, in Vinton County, son of the late Clyde O. and Norma Woltz Ratcliff. George was married for 49 years to Clara Frazier Ratcliff, who survives.
He was the General Manager at Landmark in Chillicothe for 31 years, owned and operated George's Market in Pleasant Valley for 20 years, was a Korean War Veteran, an Army Ranger and was an honorary member of the Union Township Fire Department.
George is survived by a son, George A. Donna Ratcliff Jr. of McArthur; a daughter, Jeri Lynne Shawn Sutton of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Lizabeth Matt Funderburgh of North Lewisburg, Ohio and Caleb Ratcliff of Chillicothe; a great grandson, Duncan Blaine Funderburgh; one sister, Rose Martin of McArthur and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Friday, October 23, 2009 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Brett Smith and Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Londonderry Cemetery, Londonderry. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6-8 P.M.
