Mary Catherine Kate Mechem

Mary Catherine ""Kate"" Mechem, 85, of Nelsonville, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Logan Health Care Center in Logan. She was born August 8, 1924 in Columbus, daughter of the late Walter D. and Alma Parsons Shields, granddaughter of the late Fannie Hick Shields. Kate was the widow of the late William A. Mechem, who passed away April 2, 2002.

Kate is survived by a son, Mark Julia Mechem of Nelsonville; a daughter and her partner, Jane Leesa Anderson Mechem of Peterstown, West Virginia; granddaughter-in-law, Jody DeVore; great grandsons, Joseph and William DeVore all of Lancaster; a cousin, Eva Jane Wilder of Salem, Oregon; brother-in-law, Charles Marilyn Mechem of California and a sister-in-law, Alice Drach of Athens.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Mary Huston and a step grandson, David H. DeVore.

Private services will be held. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville on Tuesday, from 5-8 P.M.
