Larry Dale Penrod

Larry Dale Penrod, 79, of Columbus, formerly of McArthur, died Friday, February 5, 2010 at his residence. He was born March 14, 1930 in McArthur. He was the son of the late Howard and Grace Rosser Penrod.

Mr. Penrod was retired from Amanda Clearcreek Local School District, where he taught for 16 years. He also retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a life member and former Chaplain of McArthur VFW post 5299.

He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Rowena A. Williams Penrod of Columbus; two sons, Warren L. Barbara Penrod of Culver, IN and David O. Sally Penrod of Powell; a daughter, Marcia Richard Sampson of Goldsboro, NC; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Charles Penrod of Columbus; a sister, Mary Esther Reynolds of Allensville and a sister-in-law, Marie Penrod of McArthur.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by brothers, Sylvester and Melvin Penrod and sisters, Anna Penrod, Ruth Penrod and Alice Leonetta Tewksbury.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Rev. Dr. Walt Goble and Rev. Rae Lynn Schlein officiating. Interment will be in Putnam Chapel Cemetery, McArthur. A military graveside service will be conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call on Monday, from 11 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
