James C. Harkless

James C. Harkless, 82, of Logan, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. He was born August 31, 1927 in Coonville, Ohio, son of the late John and Edna George Harkless. James was married to Emily L. Rupe Harkless, who survives.

He retired from Carborundum, was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of Coonville Holiness Church.

James is survived by a son, Rocky Lorena Harkless of Nelsonville; a daughter, Cindy Tom Jr. Hatfield of Logan; ten grandchildren, Jamey Miller, Charles Campbell, Jonathan Campbell, Donald ""DJ"" Hatfield, Samantha McGrady, Tom Hatfield III, Tiffany Keen, Brittany Levering, Rocky Harkless Jr. and Cody Harkless; seven great grandchildren, Jonathan Miller III, James Miller, Heidi McGrady, Joseph Keen, Aiden Keen, Tucker Levering and Tanner Levering; one great great grandchild, Jaden Miller and a sister, Ruth Appleman of McArthur.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Harkless; a daughter, Edna Hatfield and a brother, William Harkless.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, March 12, 2010 at Coonville Holiness Church, State Route 56, New Plymouth, with Rev. James Mathias officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County, with military graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, on Thursday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and on Friday, one hour prior to the services at the church.
