John Eugene Williams, 84, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. He was born August 24, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Mark and Josephine Shea Williams. John was raised by his late aunt and uncle, Mamie and Mike Shea and his late grandmother, Hannah McDermott. He was the widower of the late Joan Bighouse Williams.
John retired from Austin Powder Company as an Engineer, was a WWII Navy Veteran, attended St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski, was a former member of Knights of Columbus and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. He volunteered at Hope School, a school he once attended and was taught by his aunt Mamie. Due to his efforts, John was instrumental in preserving the schools' heritage.
John is survived by a son, Michael Renee Williams of Logan; a daughter, Lori Grupenhof of McArthur; a grandson, Kyle Grupenhof of McArthur and his father, Chris.
In addition to his parents, aunt, uncle and grandmother, John was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Williams.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski with Father Joseph Trapp officiating. Interment will be in St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Zaleski. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur on Tuesday, from 6-8 P.M. where a Christian wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
