Byron K. Kohn, 83, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 21, 1926 in Barberton, Ohio, son of the late Oscar and Ruth Watson Kohn. Byron was married for 59 years to Mildred ""Millie"" Peden Kohn, who survives.
Byron was a graduate of Canal Fulton High School; he graduated in 1951 from Ohio University Fine Arts and was a WWII Navy Veteran in the Pacific area. He was a member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299, co-founder, past president and honorary life time member of the Central Ohio Watercolor Society, a member of the Bexley Art League, a Charter member of the Ohio Watercolor Society and co-founder of the FOF. Byron was a 50 plus year member of Masonic Lodge #57 in Lancaster, a member of UCT #144, a member of the Columbus Museum of Art, a member the Vinton County Chamber of Commerce and Vinton County Travel and Tourism. He was a contributor to the Glass Ohio Museum in Lancaster, was a member of the German Village Society and Garden Club and he owned Byron's Gallery in German Village for 25 years. Byron was the last of the four men who founded the Central Ohio Watercolor Society and was also the last member of the FOF's. He was the State Fair Fine Arts Director; he started the Artists for painting German Village Tour Day, conducted watercolor seminars and judged watercolor exhibits both locally and nationally.
Byron is also survived by Vicky and Michael Schlosser; Ben and Sarrah; Steve and Vesta Warthman; Scott Warthman and Family, Shawn Warthman and family; his loving and caring cousins, Jack and Vicki Lemler; Jane Reichert and girls; Phyllis Faulkner and family; many long time friends, Keith and Dorothy Gainey, Bob and Ruby Powell, Sally Woodyard, Joanne Bauer, Gloria Whitlatch, Dottie Garrison, Marian and Earl Snyder, David and Susan Hostetler and Bill Gorsuch; his large extended family includes, Arnett Howard, Heidi, Dan, Trey and Tatum Albert, Dennis and Pam Matko, Ross and Laura Harms and family, Isabel Tracy, Larry Kelly and Karen and Bob Stilling; his nieces and nephews and many admirers and owners of his emotional and inspiring watercolors.
In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Kohn.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, June 10, 2010 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2-4 P.M. with a Red Hat Society Service at 3:30 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
