Carl D. Howard

Carl D. Howard, 84, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010 at Arcadia Acres Nursing Home in Logan. He was born August 7, 1925 in Chauncey, son of the late Clifford Howard and Louise Syx Cooley. Carl was married to the late Mary F. Childress Howard.

He retired from Standard Oil of Ohio and was a WWII Army Veteran where he received a purple heart. Carl was a lifetime member of the Athens Motorcycle Club, was a member of The American Motorcycle Association and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Jack Boyer of Glouster, Charlotte Howard of Lowell, Michigan, Candy Howard of Logan and Crystal Howard of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Sarah and Melissa Boyer of Columbus and Cassandra Boyer of Maumee, Ohio and several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents and wife, Carl was preceded in death by a son, Carl ""CJ"" Howard Jr.; brothers, Lindley and Kenneth Howard and a special cousin, Helen Brown Foraker.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville with military graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville on Tuesday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to FairHope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or the National MS Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, P.O. Box 6028 Cleveland, Ohio 44101-1028.
