Carl Clay Reed

Carl Clay Reed, age 83, died peacefully on August 15, 2010 at his home in McArthur. Carl was born November 1, 1926 in Gassville, Arkansas to the late Robert Don Reed and Celia Zenova Messick Reed.

He was preceded in death by brothers Laurel and Eddie, and sisters Agnus, Virble, Dora Lee, Maxine and is survived by his sister Avis Creasy. Carl is also survived by his wife Doris. He and Doris were married for 61 years and raised 6 children. Carl is survived by all six children: Robert Dorothy Reed of Jackson, Pamela Lynd of Charleston, South Carolina, Marsha Brad Lindner of Cincinnati, Kenneth Christy Reed of McArthur, Timothy Judy Reed of Columbus, and Stephen Stephanie Reed of McArthur. Carl was blessed with numerous grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Carl was a veteran of WWII. He was stationed in the Philippine Islands and served in the 82nd Air Engineering Squadron 6th Air Service Group. Carl was a hard working man who retired in 1994 after 37 years as a sawyer with Crownover Lumber. Providing for his family and fostering his faith were the focus of his life. Carl and his family were founding members of Grace Baptist Church in McArthur.

Calling hours will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. Funeral services will held at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010, with the Reverend Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, 120 North Market Street, McArthur, Ohio 45651.
