Ralph Edward Whalen

Ralph Edward Whalen, 63, of Carbon Hill, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Hospital in Parkersburg, West Virginia. He was born November 10, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio, son of the late Patrick and Leona Vandagriff Whalen. Ralph was married to Shirley Smathers Whalen, who survives.

He retired from General Electric in Logan, after 31 years of service, attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Logan and was a member of the Elks and VFW in Nelsonville, the Moose and Eagles in Logan, was an avid golfer, bowler and billiards player.

Ralph is survived by sons, Scott Whalen of Logan, Tim Carrie Whalen of Logan and Lee Becky Newman of Nelsonville; daughters, Susane Bill Hamby of Rockbridge, Barb Mark Ligman Pickett of Carbon Hill, Juanita Steve Spencer Sheets of Nelsonville and Allison Whalen of Logan; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Patrick Iva Whalen of Toledo, Don Whalen of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Dan Mary Whalen of Logan; sisters, Debbie Ron Allen of Kentucky and Donna Harold Sanders of Logan and daddy's boy ""Spike"".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Newman.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Rev. Brian Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Carbon Hill Cemetery, Carbon Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 2-8 P.M.
