Max Denver Thomas, 85, of McArthur, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born May 30, 1925 in Vinton County, son of the late John and Chloe Dixon Thomas. Max was married to the late Hazel Hayes Thomas.
He retired as an electrician from Anheuser Busch in 1987; was a life member of the McArthur VFW Post # 5277 and was a member of the Delta Masonic Lodge #207 F&AM in McArthur. Max was also a member of the Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. He was a former electrician for Rockwell International before he retired in 1970.
Max is survived by his granddaughters, Colleen Thomas of McArthur, Michelle John Hart of Athens and Stacey Thomas of Zaleski; great grandchildren, Keshia, Tiffany, Amanda, Rachelle, Shayna, Amber and Haylee and great great grandchildren, Kayden, Brooklynn and Jordan.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Denver Larry Thomas; sisters, Florence Staneart and Elizabeth Allman and brothers, Robert, Floyd, Arthur, Wilbur and Maynard Thomas.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Friday, September 17, 2010 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Rev. Dr. Walt Goble officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Zaleski, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post # 5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6-8 P.M. with Masonic services being held at 7:30 P.M.
