James H. Stewart

James H. Stewart, 89, of Logan, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Logan Health Care Center. He was born June 7, 1921 in Hinton, West Virginia, son of the late Charles Manly and Daisy Nelson Stewart. Jimmy was married to Mary Lou Fralick Stewart, who survives.

He retired from Rockwell International in Columbus and was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Logan. Jimmy played on the first West Virginia State High School Football Championship team in 1938 and worked for C&O Railroad in Hinton West Virginia and Logan. He was on Logan City Council for 24 years and was on the Logan Planning Commission. Jimmy was a member of Mingo Lodge #171 F&AM, a member of Hock Hocking Council #39, a member of Logan Chapter #75 R.A.M., and a member of the Logan Commandery #78, a member of the Aladdin Temple Shrine, the Hocking Hills Shrine Club, the Ambassadors Club and the Past Masters Unit. He was very active in the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and attended three national jamborees.

Jimmy is survived by a grandson, Sam Turpin of Seattle, Washington; a brother, John Stewart of Columbus and a sister, Eliza Jane McCulty of Gallipolis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his fist wife, Norma Stewart; a daughter, Barbara Turpin; brothers, Charles M. Jr., Robert and Oliver and sisters, Daisy Whanger, Helena Williams and Margaret Pollack.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, January 27, 2011 in the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Logan, with Rev. Gerald Frazee officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, on Wednesday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M., where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 P.M. and on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
