Joe R. Hamilton, 85, of McArthur, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born August 21, 1925 in West Liberty, Kentucky, son of the late Auty and Deenie LeMaster Hamilton. Joe was married for 63 years to Frances Brooks Hamilton, who survives.
He retired from Austin Powder Company, was a WWII Army Veteran, a Life Member of the Albany VFW Post #9893 and a Life Member of the McArthur Eagles AERIE #2279.
Joe is survived by a son, Terry Joe Hamilton of McArthur; daughters, Phyllis Ann Hamilton of McArthur, Carol Rae Thomas Clark of New Jersey and Barbara Elaine Gregory Fera of New Jersey; grandchildren, Marlena Jo Steve Poling, Deanna Glen Levito, Robin Bryan Ousley, Patrick Clark, Adam Fera and Beth Fera; eleven great grandchildren and a sister, Rea Bill Groley of Albany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ron, Ren and Roy Hamilton and sisters, Gay Shive and Fay Bumgardner.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, January 28, 2011 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Chris Dewhurst officiating. Interment will be in Harkins Chapel Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the Athens American Legion Post #21, Athens VFW Post #347 and the Albany VFW Post #9893 Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. with an Eagles service being held at 7 P.M.
