Eileen Shafer

April 8, 1923 — January 29, 2011

Eileen Shafer, 87, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 8, 1923 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late William and Wilda McManaway Dewhurst. She was the widow of the late James L. ""Jimmy"" Shafer, whom she married May 9, 1944.

Eileen was a graduate of Nelsonville High School and was a partner with her husband in Shafer Sohio, Shafer's Restaurant and Lounge, Highlander Laundry and the Town and Country Carryout. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Nelsonville. Eileen was a wonderful, loving, caring mother and grandmother who loved baking and sharing with others. She will be missed by all the people she has touched through the years.

Eileen is survived by a son, Steven and Susan Shafer of Nelsonville; a daughter, Pat and Chuck Robinette of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Christopher and Mariah Robinette of El Paso, Texas, Tina and Scott Holbert of Canal Winchester, Jill and Dr. Denise Michel of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Stephanie and Christopher Pagan of Sterling, Virginia and Ali Shafer of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Alysha and Logan Holbert of Canal Winchester and Nathan Bullock of Nelsonville; brother-in-law, Robert Shafer of Athens; sisters-in-law, Mary Dewhurst and Ruth Brooker; and a very special friend, Alice Howson of Nelsonville.

In addition to her husband and parents, Eileen was preceded in death by a brother Max Dewhurst and a sister, Betty Cope.

The Shafer family would like to thank Deanna Smith of Appalachian Community Hospice for the loving care she provided during Eileen's illness.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Eileen Shafer be made to the Appalachian Community Hospice, 30 Herrold Ave., Athens, Ohio 45701.
