Dorothy Eleanor Nelson

January 20, 1921 — April 28, 2011

Former long-time Logan resident, Dorothy Eleanor Fouts Nelson passed away on April 28, 2011 at the age of 90, during her annual stay in Texas with her daughter. Dorothy had been residing in Pickerington, OH since moving from Logan in November of 2000.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents John and Bertha Maxwell Fouts; her husband, former Logan Councilman, Edward L. Nelson; sisters Beatrice, Leona, Mae, Lois, Pauline and Maxine and a brother Glenn.
Dorothy is survived by two children: Leanne E. Nelson Brasington LHS Class of 1973 and Robert W. Nelson LHS Class of 1976; Two siblings: Elaine Fouts Weber of Ashtabula and Harold Fouts of Columbus; five grandchildren: Jaime Nelson, Christopher Nelson, Crystal Brasington, Amber Herrington, and Mandie Brasington; three great-grandchildren: Skylar Harrington, Sky Herrington, and Colton Nelson; a daughter-in-law: Tammy Nelson, and a son-in-law: Scott Brasington.

Dorothy graduated in 1935 from Corning Ohio High School at sixteen. She moved to Logan and lived with her sister and brother-in-law Lois and Zig Ziegler who owned a grocery store where she met her future husband, Edward Nelson. Dorothy lived in Columbus while Eddie served in WWII. After the war, the couple moved back to Logan where she worked at Smead Paper and Eddie opened Logan Welding later Nelson's
Welding. Dorothy retired after 27 years working at the Logan High School Attendance Office.

Dorothy was a founding member of the First Church of Christ, Logan; instrumental in starting the New Lexington Church of Christ, and the Hocking Hills Church of Christ. Dorothy also spent many summers in the kitchen at Ohio Valley Christian Assembly youth church camp.

Calling hours will be at Cardaras Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Hocking Hills church of Christ Hwy 33 North on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 AM. Interment will be in the cemetery at the Beech Grove Church in Perry county near Dorothy's childhood home, where the Fouts family used to attended church.
