Thomas James Atkinson Sr.

Thomas James Atkinson Sr., 74, of New Marshfield, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. He was born July 27, 1936, in Columbus, son of the late Viginia McCarty Sanborn and the late Charles Atkinson. He was married to Beverly Rutter Atkinson, who survives, since 1969.

Tom was a retired Truck Driver for Parker Trucking.

In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by his stepfather, Elmer Sanborn of Millfield; daughter, Loretta Kenny Doherty Atkinson; sons, Thomas ""TJ"" Susan Griffiths Atkinson Jr. and Eric J. Atkinson all of New Marshfield and Joe Fulton of Albany; grandchildren, Andrew Hutchins, James Atkinson, Michaela Copenhaver, Dallas Atkinson, Savanha Atkinson, Preston Atkinson, Zachary Atkinson all of New Marshfield and Michael Copenhaver Jr. of California; sister, Dona David McKnabb of Athens; brothers, Rick Carol Sanborn of Millfield, Rod Kathy Sanborn of Urbana, Rocky Elaine Sanborn of Athens and Ronnie Paulette Clark Sanborn of Morristown; sisters-in-law, Janet Mourn of The Plains and Shirley Dobbs of Logan; brother-in-law, John Linton of Logan; former daughters-in-law, Summer Thomas BurgessAtkinson of Nelsonville and Salena McCune of New Marshfield; special family friends, Cory Shifflet and Toni ""Sis"" Robinson; Tom's three dogs, Brindle, Buster and Rascal and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother and father, Tom was preceded in death by his grandmother, Molly McCarty; niece, Cathy LaFollette; aunt, Wanda Perry; sister-in-law, Sheila Linton; and brother-in-law, Harold Mourn.

Tom's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Jim Bogoniewski officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
