Thomas Riley

Thomas Riley, 88, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at Logan Health Care Center. He was born February 24, 1923 in New Straitsville, son of the late Thomas F. and Blanche Dewhurst Riley. Tom was married for 38 years to Marjorie Blair Riley, who survives.

He retired from Chennault and Co., was a WWII Navy Veteran where he was a Frogman, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nelsonville, a life member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge and was a life member of the Nelsonville VFW Post #3467. Tom was also a retired coalminer, and in 1956, he rescued two coalminers for which he received two awards, the Joseph A. Holmes Award and the Carnegie Award.

Tom is survived his children, Pat Jane Riley of Granville, Deb Greg Fraunfelter of Logan, Don Lissa Riley of Athens and Joe Janet Riley of Nelsonville, Janet Hartshorn of Nelsonville, David Rose Riley of Athens, Barb Ed Flowers of Nelsonville, Sis Steve Mowery of Logan and Lori Anita Mondo Pierce of Nelsonville; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; sisters, Carol Bruce Hartman of Nelsonville and Elizabeth Whyte of Mt. Orab and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Bobby Gene Riley and Mark Riley, Bob Pierce and Jim Pierce and brothers, Jack Riley and Bob Riley.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, with military graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M., with and Elks service being held at 7:30 P.M.
