Ella Venus Griffith

Ella Venus Griffith, 93, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Twin Maples Nursing Home in McArthur. She was born July 8, 1918 in Garrett, Kentucky, daughter of the late Rev. Hiram S. and Mary Hicks Lafferty. Ella was married to Rev. Jerry R. Griffith Sr., who survives.

She was a member of the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church and the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky. Ella wrote many articles for state and national publications, including a book entitled, Precious Memories.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Jerry R. Griffith Jr. of McArthur; daughter, Brenda C. Rev. Jim Henderson of McArthur; grandchildren, Jeffrey Kendra Griffith, Jeri Ann Trainer, Richie Erin Griffith, Joe Angie Griffith, Jimmy Daphne Henderson and Joy Henderson; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church, 408 W. Main St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Henderson and Rev. Jerry R. Griffith Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the McArthur Free Will Baptist Church on Tuesday, from 4-8 P.M.
