John Phillip Parry, 86, of Logan, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Logan Health Care Center. He was born January 6, 1925 in Nelsonville, son of the late Phillip and Norma Jean Bownes Parry. John was married for 64 years to Janet Sweazy Parry, who survives.
He retired from CSX Railroad after 42 years of service and was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran who was shot done over Yugoslavia with the 15th Air Force in a B24 Liberator Bomber. John was awarded a Purple Hart. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Logan, was a 50 year member of Mingo Lodge #171 F&AM and a charter member of the Hocking Hills Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Kentucky Colonials and the American Legion.
John is survived by a son, John Curtis Parry of Logan; daughters, Diane Gary Sarver of Athens, Cathy Clark Sheets of Logan and Mary Brooks Fuller Parry of Lancaster; grandchildren, Maura, Brian, Amy, Keith, Malissa, Joshua and Ashley; great grandchildren, Sophia, Jolianna, Andrew, Sam, Isaac and Daniel; aunt, Mabel Kennedy and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Parry and sisters, Betty Hamilton and Marie Woodgeard.
Graveside services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, December 23, 2011 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan, with Rev. Rick Bennington officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, on Thursday, from 6-8 P.M.
