Ana Belem Bonilla Shepherd was born November 16, 1970, in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. Belem lost her battle with breast cancer on January 15, 2012; she was only 41 years old.
She leaves behind her beloved and devoted husband of 19 years, Patrick Shepherd; and two lovely daughters, Maria and Ana Shepherd, ages 14 and 15.
Belem was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Belem had a loving spirit and in 2010, she not only raised $10, 000 for the Susan G. Komen Walk in Cleveland, Ohio, but she walked 60 miles for the event. That same year, and again in 2011, Belem walked in New Jersey for a breast cancer event. At this event, she dressed herself in pink, including a pink wig and sunglasses, and danced with other survivors.
Belem came to Ohio as an exchange student in 1989 ad stayed with Ruby ""Grandma"" Vance. Belem enjoyed attending Faith Freewill Baptist Church and loved playing sudoku. About three years ago, Belem taught Spanish at the Logan Christian School. She was involved in the Hispanic ministry. While working at Meijer, she met and enjoyed eating cherries and pomegranates with Lottie. One of her favorite things in life was watching her daughters march in the Logan Marching Band. Even when she was sick, Belem refused to miss the band perform. Logan Marching Band was her favorite band.
She was a devoted wife and mother who dedicated her life to her beloved husband and daughters. In April 2011, Belem was diagnosed with cancer for the last time. Through it all, she never lost her faith in God or will to live.
In addition to leaving behind her husband and daughters, she also leaves behind the congregation at the church; Ruby ""Grandma"" Vance; Lottie and Tad; and her good friends, Erica and Marcelino from Las Cascada Restaurant. Finally, Belem leaves behind her family in Mexico, including father Francisco; and siblings, Jose Alfredo, Christina, Patricia, Martha, Henry, Marisela, Marco and Gaby.
The thing she'll most be remembered for is her beautiful smile. She is now with her mother, Maria; and sister, Claudia, in heaven. Belem will be dearly missed by all.
