Melvin Eugene Gene Boyer

Melvin Eugene ""Gene"" Boyer, 71, of McArthur, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1940 in Vinton County, son of the late Melvin E. ""Pat"" and Elsie Loper Boyer. Melvin was married for 44 years to Garnet Buffington Boyer, who survives.

He retired from the Vinton County School System, the Vinton County Sheriffs Department and the McArthur Police Department. Gene also formerly worked for the Vinton County Senior Citizens Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Norma Boyer and Carol Robby Williams; a son, Melvin Eugene Boyer Jr.; grandchildren, Cara Josh Newman, Roman Boyer, William Pat Miller and Jeanie Andy Burns; great grandson, Tristan Burns; brother, Chuck Carolyn Boyer; sister, Janice Boyer and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, John Boyer.

Law Enforcement Services will be held 7 P.M., Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with a funeral service immediately following with Rev. Jim Taylor and Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5 P.M. until the time of the services.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Melvin Eugene ""Gene"" Boyer, to the Vinton County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 481, McArthur, Ohio 45651.
