Louise Wolf

March 18, 1911 — February 6, 2012

Louise Wolf, 100, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 at the Laurels of Athens. She was born March 18, 1911 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Louis P. and Clara Elizabeth ""Bess"" Rider Rice. She was the widow of the late Roger Wilson Wolf who passed away October 11, 1985.

Louise was a 1929 graduate of Nelsonville High School and attended College at Wooster, Ohio University graduating with degrees in Public School Music Education and English. She began her teaching career as a traveling music teacher in all the schools in Ward Township, most were two or four room school houses, which she loved. She was married to Roger Wolf in August 1940 and lived in Nelsonville until the beginning of World War II when Roger was inducted into the Navy and was stationed in Washington DC. When she returned from Washington, Louise taught for three years in McArthur and then Buchtel. After the birth of her daughter, Suzanne, Mrs. Wolf taught part time in Buchtel and then, in 1957, became acting Principal and teacher of English, Geography and Reading at Green Township Elementary in Hocking County. In 1960, she returned to Nelsonville Schools and taught eighth and ninth grade English until her retirement from teaching in 1975.

After retirement, Louise traveled, including trips to New Zealand to see her daughter, Suzanne. She was a veracious reader and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Age was no indication of Mrs. Wolf's spirit or talents. Although she had been retired for many years, she willingly served as tutor for students who needed extra support. Her gracious spirit gave confidence to students. It wasn't unusual for you to see her on summer afternoons out on her front porch working with those she was mentoring. Many students went on to be successful because she cared enough to give them the opportunity. She served as the hostess at the Nelsonville Public Library Card Club every Tuesday for more than eight years. Now in its tenth year, the ladies still meet and the game of choice is euchre. Euchre, for Louise, was not easily learned- but it is doubtful that there are many better bridge players than she.

The First Presbyterian Church of Nelsonville was the benefactor of Louise's music talents where she was the church organist and choir director. In her soft spoken voice, an outstanding music talent, she always brought the best church anthems to the congregation. She loved all the things she did in life and especially loved her hometown of Nelsonville. Even after leaving Nelsonville to live at the Lindley Inn, when visiting her, she would promptly say ""Tell me what's happening up home!""

Always a soft spoken lady whose grace followed her all of her life, she will be missed by those who knew her as ""Mrs. Wolf""

Lousie is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Ragg of The Plains; grandchildren, Stephen Christy Kronberg Ragg of Athens and Kimberly Anne Ragg of Columbus; great grandson, Emmitt Ragg and nieces, Toni Alderidge of Westerville and Virginia Dennis of Lewis Center

In addition to her husband and parents, Louise was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kerry Ragg and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Ruth Hawk.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Rev. Peter Galbraith officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Thursday from 1:30 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
