James E. Matheny

James E. Matheny, 76, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born March 7, 1936 in Athens County, son of the late James and Dorothy Vincent Matheny. Jim was married to Kathleen Longstreth Matheny, who survives.

He retired from International Union Local 423 and attended the First Baptist Church in Nelsonville.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Kim Chuck Craig, Kris Mitch Haines, Kara Steve Bless, Linda Doug Blunt, Laura Bill Francis and Tammy Bob Lewis; twenty three grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren and sisters, Wilma Charles Timberlake, Blanche Buz Paugh and Dottie John Enos.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James and Randy Matheny; daughter, Brenda Matheny; granddaughter, Tammy Velavquez; grandson, John Matheny and his aunt and uncle who raised him, John and Sally Matheny.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Tuesday, April 24, 2012 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Pastor Ronald M. Chunn officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 4-8 P.M.
