Washington Bowers Jr., 89, of Logan, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born March 12, 1923 in Union Furnace, Ohio, son of the late Washington and Florence Mauk Bowers Sr. Wash was married to the late Ella Louise Hammon Bowers.
Wash was a retired salesman from Logan Monument Company and served in WW II 12th Armored Division. He was Past District Deputy DeMolay, 60 year member of Mingo Lodge #171 F& AM, Logan Chapter #75 Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Hock-Hocking Council #39 Royal and Select Masons, Past Commander of Logan Commandery #78 Knights Templar, White Shrine of Jerusalem #51, Venus Chapter #76 OES, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, elected 33 Degree Mason in 1992, Director Emeritus for Hocking Co. Scottish Rite, member and Past President of Tahre Shrine Club in Lancaster.
Wash is survived by sons, Jeff Linda Bowers of Lancaster and Chris Jackie Bowers of Columbus; grandchildren, Judd Bowers of Lancaster, Erin Bowers of Lancaster and Jon Bowers of Lithopolis, Ohio; great grandchild, Xavier Boston of Lancaster; brother, Jim Linda Bowers of Columbus; sister, Ruth Ann Fleming of Fairborn; step granddaughters, Kimberly Austin of Columbus and Keely Greg Grant of Milan Ohio and three step great granddaughters, Zoe, Lili and Ava Grant.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bowers and sisters, Louise Bowers and Betty O'Hanlon.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, April 28, 2012 in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. Brian Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Logan with military graveside services being conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
