Harley Rogers Dupler

December 29, 1928 — May 24, 2012

Harley Rogers Dupler, 83, of Longstreth, died peacefully at his home in the arms of his grandson, Jedediah McClain with his loving family by his side. He was born December 29, 1928 in New Philadelphia. Harley was the son of the late Oscar and Alverta Dupler.

Harley is survived by children, Kent of Logan, Keith Jody of Albany, Teresa of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tamara Will Blake of Longstreth, Craig Jeannine of Gainesville, Florida and Kyle Mary of Grove City; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother, Ron Shelby of Longstreth; sisters, Shirley Jim Sanborn of Florida, Judy Gilbert of Lancaster and Diane Clyde Campbell of Nelsonville.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Dupler and brothers-in-law, Warren Dupler and Bill Gilbert.

Harley was an avid hunter, fisherman, enjoyed his vegetable gardens, playing euchre and hunting mushrooms with his best friend, Rodney Galentin. Harley's love of baseball began as a child as his career flourished playing organized ball in area youth leagues at the close of World War II. Harley's fondest game memory was during furlough in 1951 after completing basic training and was asked to play. ""The score was tied 1-1 with bases loaded in the ninth and then manager, Max Kineer asked me if I could swing and miss the first pitch and lay down a bunt."" The strategy worked to perfection catching Glouster defense on its heels. The result was a 3-1 victory. He was a member of 1956 Hocking Valley League Sunny Coal Baseball Team with batting average in the 0.270-.275. Harley is the 1986 recipient of the Nelsonville Old Timers Baseball Association Award and accepted an award for his dad, Oscar Dupler in 2008 in appreciation of his many years of devoted service to the game of baseball. Harley served in the US Army stationed in Germany from 1949 through 1951. He was a member of American Legion and supporter of the Democratic Party. He was employed by Brooks Shoe Factory in Nelsonville and Goodyear in Logan.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Sunday September 2, 2012 at the Longstreth Baseball Park during the annual Homecoming event. Ashes will also be placed at Carbon Hill Cemetery.
