Nelda Ione Maxwell

January 6, 1919 — September 23, 2012

Nelda Ione Maxwell, 93, of Londonderry, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Maple Hills Nursing Home in McArthur. She was born January 6, 1919 in Vinton County, daughter of the late Orland and Viota Swaney Benson. Nelda was the widow of the late Clyde Warner Maxwell.

She retried after 35 years of service as a teacher from Vinton County Schools. Nelda spent 14 years in a one room school before consolidation to Allensville School. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Trinity Church and was a former board member of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library in McArthur.

Nelda is survived by her son, Kent (Cindy) Maxwell of New Plymouth; a daughter, Carol Rizor of Foley, Alabama; grandchildren, Sandra (Todd) Cameron of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, Susan (Stuart) Elden of Nigeria, Tiffany (Darrick) Maynard of New Plymouth and Shawn (Jessica) Maxwell of Londonderry; six great grandchildren; brothers, Leland and Donald Benson; sisters, Neva Ucker, Ruth Littlejohn and Coral Ward and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Myron Benson and a son-in-law, Hugh Rizor.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, September 27, 2012 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Londonderry Cemetery, Londonderry. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5-8 P.M.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Nelda Maxwell, to Heartland Hospice, P.O. Box 400, Lucasville, OH 45648.
