Paul Carlton Cecil Sr.

July 20, 1932 — December 3, 2012

Paul Carlton Cecil, Sr. passed away on December 3, 2012, in Lancaster, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was born on July 20, 1932, in Allensville, Ohio and continued to make his home there with his wife Frances when they married on May 3, 1959. They raised three children: Paul, Jr., (wife Diane), Carla, and Charlie (wife Jan); 5 grandchildren, Jessica, who made her home with Paul and Fran, Joshua, Marie, Jennifer, and Ben; 2 great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother-in-law Wallace McWhorter and sister-in-law Wavalene Cecil.

Upon graduation from Allensville High School in 1950, Paul worked for the family business, Cecil’s Hardware Store. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and upon returning home, returned working for Cecil’s Hardware Store, until going to work as Clerk of the Allensville Schools. He then became Treasurer of Vinton County Schools after consolidation and was employed there until his retirement in 1989. Paul was a member of the Delta Lodge #207 F&AM in McArthur for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Ival Cecil and his siblings, sister, Janet McWhorter and brothers Earl, Sr. and Jim (and sister-in-law) Jean.

Funeral services will be held 3 P.M., Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Thomas McManis, officiating. Interment will be in Bell Cemetery, Vinton County, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6-8 P.M. where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
