John Granville Gorrell, 92, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. He was born August 22, 1920 in Hamden, Ohio, son of the late Alva M. and Jessie Mae Wortman Gorrell. John was married for 62 years to Martha Barbee Gorrell, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and WWII Army Veteran.
John is survived by his sons, John T. (Sue Ellen) Gorrell of Hamden, William Sanford (Monica Smith) Gorrell of Hamden and David Randall (Janet) Gorrell of Londonderry; daughter, Martha Jane (Walter) Kincaid of Dorset, Ohio and Margret Elaine (Danny) Bapst of Hamden; fourteen grandchildren; three step grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lena Alice Gorrell.
John will be sadly missed by all relatives and friends who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Richard Moore and Rev. Rodney Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Tripp Cemetery, Jackson County, with military graveside services being held by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 2-5 P.M.
