Howard Earl Mount, 92, of Westerville, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Kobacker House in Columbus. He was born August 24, 1920, in Hocking County, son of the late Kella and Helen Elizabeth Merriman Mount. He was the widow of the late Marguerite Hunley Mount, his wife of 60 years.
Howard was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy. He joined the Navy the day after Pearl Harbor and served on the USS Barnes Aircraft Carrier in the South Pacific. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he was a member of the Rubber Workers of America and served as an official delegate and shop steward.
He was loved and respected by his four children and their spouses: Sharon Colwell of Pickens, SC; Ronald and Mary Mount of Waverly, OH; Steven and Kathleen Mount of Westerville, OH; and Elizabeth and Tim Pond of Olanta, SC. He had 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren (plus one on the way), and one great-great grandchild.
He is survived by his sister, Juanita Imboden of Logan, OH and was preceded in death by 13 siblings: Hester Kinnison, Ray Mount, Floyd Mount, Orval Mount, Max Mount, Kenneth Mount, Florence Courtney, Edith Mount, Josephine Mount, Jimmy Mount, Clyde Mount, Albert Mount, and Chloe Mount. His best friend was Thomas Kella Mount.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 29, 2013 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Tim Pond officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Doanville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Friday from 11-1 at the funeral home; memorial flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
