Harold E. Smith, 89, of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his residence. He was born September 8, 1923, in Nelsonville, son of the late Herdie R. and Cora Larkins Smith. He was married to Jean Warner Smith, who survives.

He was Owner and Operator of Smitty’s Gulf in Nelsonville and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church and the Nelsonville VFW Post 3467.

The Smith family would like to express a special thanks to the staff at Appalachian Community Hospice for their special care and kindness for Harold during his last days.

In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by two sons, Tim and Paula Smith of Cincinnati and Greg Smith of Zanesville; granddaughter, Megahnn and Shane Mash of Nelsonville; grandson, Jamie Smith; great grandchildren, Lexi Hiles, Hannah Hiles, Charlie Mash, Stephan Smith, Cera Smith and Bryan Hamilton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willard Smith and sister, Ada Ralph.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev Mike Thomas officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 at the funeral home.
