Russell C. Stump, 60, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born June 1, 1952 in Athens County, son of the late Paul J. and Evelyn L. Adams Stump. Russell was married to Beverly Hughes Stump, who survives.

Russell was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Era, was a member of the Nelsonville VFW Post #3467, a member of the Murray City American Legion Post #420 and was a member of the Combined Color Guard Unit. He was avid at hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting. Russell was a devoted dog owner and loved his dogs and was a die hard Cleveland Browns fan. Russell enjoyed playing softball and baseball. He played softball for the Mine Tavern in the Athens league for several years and played baseball for Nelsonville and Longstreth teams in the Hocking Valley league.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Rick Jackson of Toledo and Paul Laughlin; stepchildren, Amity Swanson of Columbus and Sean Cavote of Atlanta, Georgia; six grandchildren and sisters, Debbie Woltz of Lancaster and Julie Champlin of The Plains.

Russell’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, April 13, 2013 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville. Military burial rights will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. No calling hours will be observed.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Russell C. Stump, to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43214.
