Merlie Messer

Merlie Messer, 85, of Hamden, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at her residence. She was born November 10, 1927 in West Virginia, daughter of the late Preston and Mahalia Lowe Fuller. Merlie was married to Forest Messer, who passed away July 30, 2007, for 57 years.


She was retired from JCPenney and attended the Reynoldsburg Freewill Baptist Church.


She is survived by one son, Jerry Messer of Reynoldsburg; daughters, Sandra Malaby and Janet Avila of Aiken, South Carolina and Rita Basham of Reynoldsburg; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle Damron of Indiana; nieces, caregivers and friends, Mary McFarren, Fay Howard, Mac and Linda Massie and Betty Moore.


In addition to her parents and husband, Merlie was preceded in death by, a son, Don Messer; a daughter, Ruth Helton; a grandson, Abraham Malaby and several brothers and sisters.


Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the Reynoldsburg Freewill Baptist Church, 9508 Taylor Rd., Reynoldsburg, with Pastor Jerry Sargent officiating. Interment will be in Glen Rest Memorial Cemetery, Reynoldsburg. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, on Monday from 4-6 P.M. and on Tuesday at the church in Reynoldsburg from 12 P.M. until the time of the services.
