Ernest Bowers Jr., 87, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, June 27, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1924 in Newark, Ohio, son of the late Ernest W. Bowers and Pauline Lyle Thompson. Ernest was married for 70 years to Helen L. Zeiner Bowers, who survives.
He was a commercial pilot, A.I., an Aerial Applicator and Farmer. Ernest was a WWII Army Veteran, a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Past President of the Hocking County Farm Bureau, a member of The Ohio State Flying Farmers and the Franklin County Deputy Flying Division. He was a member of the NRA, earned his Honorary Degree in Engineering at The Ohio State University, was a certified Tool and Die Maker and he was active in the Hocking S.W.C.D.
In addition to his wife, Ernest is survived by his sons, Gene (Donna) Bowers of Nelsonville and Ed (Helga) Bowers of Galloway; daughter, Karen (Jerry) Ward of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Yontz, Brandi (Jacob) Crow, Michael (Julie) Bowers, Jennifer (Eric) Yoder and Matthew (Kristi) Ward; great grandchildren, Brittney Yontz, Joshua Bowers, Jocelyn Yoder, Cerys Yoder and Garrett Yoder; sisters, Mona and JoAnn; sister-in-law, Dorothy Leibrock; brother-in-law, Fred Wilson; special nephew, Greg Leibrock; several other nieces and nephews and a special friend and Dog, Booner.
Graveside services will be held 11 A.M., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in Concord Cemetery, Grove City with Rev. Ricci Arthur officiating. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, on Tuesday, from 6-8 P.M.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Ernest Bowers Jr. to the Smith Chapel Food Pantry, 1333 E. Front St.., Logan, Ohio 43138.
