Gregory Lee Powell

Gregory Lee Powell, 55, of Hamden, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 22, 1958 in Portsmouth, Ohio, son of Shelby D. Smith Powell of Portsmouth and the late Jack Leo Powell. Greg was married to Melanie Swart Powell, who survives.

Greg worked for Frontier Communications for over 35 years and was of Methodist faith. He was the President of the McArthur Eagles AERIE # 2279 and was a member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299.

In addition to his mother and wife, Greg is survived by his son, Gregory Lee Powell II of McArthur; daughter, Brittany Nicole Powell of Covington, Kentucky; grandsons, Brenton and Dayton Breech; brother, Randall Powell of Lanham, Maryland; sister, Lori (David) Lipster of Columbus and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Jennie Smith and paternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Powell.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, September 30, 2013 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, from 5-7 P.M. with an Eagles service being held at 6:30 P.M.
