Rev. Newton Kennon Smith

Rev. Newton Kennon Smith, 89, of Creola, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at his residence. He was born March 20, 1924 in Allen, West Virginia, son of the late Joseph Smith and Nora Spears Ball. Newton was married for 63 years to Julia Mae Harris, who survives.

He was a retired farmer and water well contractor. Newton was a WWII Army Veteran.

He is survived by his son, Keith (Edith) Smith of Creola; daughters, Ruby Jean Gannon of Columbus, Pamela (Steven) Winland of Columbus and Kathy (Tony) Wilson of Ray; eight grandchildren and a brother, Bill Smith of Branchland, West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, Newton was preceded in death by his son, Dale Mitchell Smith; two infant daughters; brothers, Gilbert, Sylvester and Don Smith and sister, Victoria Lovejoy.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Friday, November 1, 2013 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Vinton County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6-8 P.M.
