Gerald Jesse Murray, 91, of Ray, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at Chillicothe Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 13, 1922 in Ross County, son of the late Ora Sandord and Bertha Scott Murray. Gerald was married to Darlene Long Murray, who survives.
He retired in 1985 from Duffy Electric Company in Chillicothe and was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran serving in the South Pacific Wing from 1942-1946.
He is survived by his son, Delvin Jesse Murray of Ray; daughters, Donna (William) Cyrus and Deborah (Randy) Manion both of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Bower, Farrah (Jay) Davis, Tahaune Cyrus, Scott (Alice) Murray, Trey (Rebecca) Cyrus, Clayton (Krysten) Cyrus and Cory (Tonya) Manion; twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ora and Scott Murray and sisters, Elwanda Doyle, Juanita Winks, Marjorie Kinney and Genevive Clark.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Thursday, March 6, 2014 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Jim Harper officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Vinton County, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 11 A.M. until the time of the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Gerald Murray, to the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department of Vinton County, 51560 Old Rt. 50, Londonderry, Ohio 45647.
