Martha Lou Phiropoulos

Martha Lou Phiropoulos, 90, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. She was born December 3, 1923 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Leland and Gladys Valkingburg Pierce. She was the widow of the late Peter H. Phiropoulos.

Martha was World War II Veteran of the United States Navy. She was also a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, the last Charter member of the Emblem Club #97 and a member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge BPOE #543.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Pamela Phiropoulos of Lancaster; 3 grandchildren, Pete Tucker and Tony Tucker both of Nelsonville and Matt Tucker of Columbus; 7 great grandchildren, Breton, Zach, Alex, Kassie, Trevor, Josh and Cory; and a brother, Leland Pierce of Albuquerque, NM.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Gill and brother, Raymond Pierce.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 21, 2014 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, Ohio 45764 with Rev. King Kelly officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, where military graveside service will be conducted by the combined color guard. Friends and family may call Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8PM with an Elks and Emblem Club services at 7:30.
