Donald D. Lightfoot

Donald D. Lightfoot, 88, of Logan, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by family.

Born October 28, 1925 in Haydenville, he was the son of the late Wilbur Sr. and Clara Walker Lightfoot. He also was the widower of Leora Jean Foreman Lightfoot, who passed away September 1999.

A graduate of Logan High School’s class of 1944, he was a World War II Navy Veteran.

Don owned and operated Don’s Appliance Sales and Service for over 60 years, and was employed in the ground and building department at Logan-Hocking School District for 31 years.

He was a member of the Lawrence N. Helber American Legion Post 78 and Trinity United Methodist Church.

Don was an avid bowler and bowled in several local leagues, including Scenic Lanes Handicap League and the Monday afternoon Senior League at Lancaster’s Tiki Lanes. He also was the initial member of the Logan Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

Surviving are five sons, Donald E. (Robin), of Columbus, Anthony (Adele), of Pacific, Calif., Greg and Phillip (Patty), of Logan, and Bradley (Lorraine), of Akron; one daughter, Lisa Lightfoot Burnside; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen (Sis) Ford; and five brothers, Benton, Elmer Allen (Fat), Larry, Wilbur Jr. (Jun) and Daniel; and one grandson.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 20, with services 1 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan.

Military graveside services will be at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Appalachia Ohio in Don’s name.
