Barbara E. Litter

Barbara E. Litter, 81, of McArthur, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.  She was born July 15, 1932 in Athens, daughter of the late Maude Runyan Esmont and Joe Esmont.

Barbara retired from Vinton County High School as an Algebra teacher.  She graduated from McArthur High School in 1950, earned her Bachelors Degree from Ohio University in 1954 and her Master Degree from Ohio University in 1960.  Barbara was the past President of the McArthur BPW, the past President of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.  She was the Cofounder of the Vinton County Historical Society and The Alice House.

Barbara is survived by her grandchildren, Kris Litter of Germany/Burgoon and Bobbi Jo Litter of Tiffin; great grandchildren, Taisija Marie Litter, Victoria Rose Litter, Ayden Christopher Olszewski, Alyssandra Daijah Ward and Anastashya Rayne Ward; half brothers, Robert Esmont of Ashland, Fred Esmont of Columbus and John Esmont of Canton; half sister, Martha Herrmann of North Canton and special friend, Tina Johnston of McArthur.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert “Mark” Litter; half brother, Joe Esmont and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, April 28, 2014 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Jim Taylor officiating.  Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-8 P.M. and on Monday, 11 A.M. until the time of the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Barbara E. Litter to the Vinton County Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 481, McArthur, Ohio 45651.
