Earl R. Martin

Earl R. Martin, 84, of Carbon Hill, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1930 in Sand Run, the son of the late Raymond and Ruth Dawley Martin. He was married to Ann Yates Martin, who survives, for 50 years.

Earl was a veteran of the United States Army, where he earned a Purple Heart during combat, in the Korean Conflict. He attended the Carbon Hill Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.

He is survived by a son, Mike (Christy) Martin of New Straitsville; daughters, Debbie (Doug) Graf of Carbon Hill, Cathy (Doug Carver) Martin of Carbon Hill, Patty (Omar) Abass of Columbus, Carla (Bill McClelland) Stevens of Logan, Connie (John) Pallo of Redtown; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Norma (Raymond) Smyers of Lancaster; brothers, Rex Martin of Logan, Gene (Christy) Martin of Carbon Hill, Dale (Kay Cox) Martin of Logan and Leo Martin of Nelsonville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Martin and a sister, Betty Fout.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with Rev. Joy Omslaer officiating. Interment will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery, Logan where Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Hocking County Combined Color Guard Burial Detail. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 PM
