George E. Booth

George E. Booth, age 95, of McArthur, died April 27 th , 2014 at his residence.  He was born May 18, 1918 on the Yankee St. family farm south of Wilkesvile, OH to his parents, David R. and Minnie Wilcox Booth. At age 24 he acquired a Bachelors Degree from Rio Grande College.  He taught elementary school for four years.  He then enlisted in WWII in the Army Air Corps, and attained a rank of Warrant Officer in Normandy, France.  George held various positions at the Vinton County National Bank including President of the Bank.  He retired as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.  During his lifetime he not only worked for the bank, he along with his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Booth of McArthur, started the Booth Real Estate and Insurance Agency Inc.  He was also a member of the Orphan’s Friend Masonic Lodge in Wilkesville.  George enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and loved spending time with his family.

George is survived by not only his wife, but his five children; David (Ruby) Booth, Janet (David) Bolender, Janice  Smith, Mary Ann (John) Simmons, and Ellen (Doug) Lash all of McArthur; 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Molihan; several nieces and nephews; and close friend Guy Waldron.  A special thanks is extended to the caregivers:  Mary Ann Houston, Michelle Houston, Laiken Fee, Mary Barnett, and Diana Toney.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry M. Booth.

Respects may be given from 5PM until 8PM Thursday, May 1 st at GARRETT- CARDARAS FUNERAL HOME, 201 West High St McArthur, OH.  A Masonic service will take place at 7PM , a rosary will be at 7:45 and a Vigil Service at 8PM .  A Mass of Christian Burial by Father Joseph Trapp will take place at St. Sylvester Catholic Church on Friday at 11AM .  The Vinton Co. VFW Burial Detail will have a committal service following the service at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, OH. Arrangements have been made through the FRANK E.SMTH FUNERAL HOME. Memorials can be made in George’s name to St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church 119N 2 nd St. Zaleski, OH 45698.
