Jean Catherine Sharp

Jean Catherine Sharp, 81, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Nicholas County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richwood, West Virginia. She was born January 15, 1933 in Nelsonville, daughter of the late George Edward and Carmelita Eldora Cagg Walton Sr. Jean was married November 17, 1951 to Dempsey T. Sharp, who survives.

She and Dempsey lived in Webster Springs, WV for many years where they belonged to the First Baptist Church of Webster Springs. Jean was employed by the Board of Education and after returning to Nelsonville in 1979, she set a true example by completing her associate degree in nursing at Hocking Technical College at the age of 51.

Thereafter, she worked for the State of Ohio for several years as an RN. She was an expert cook and baker, and a professional grade seamstress. She was a loving and giving individual who touched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Kathleen) Sharp of Salisbury, North Carolina and Jeremy (April) Sharp of Nelsonville; daughter, Jane (Bill) Cogar of Richwood, West Virginia; grandchildren, Diana Sanders of Ashville, NC, Ami Sharp of Knoxville, TN, Kathryn (Chris) Frazier of Albequerque, NM, Sarah (Nick) Brooks of Culloden, WV and Tommy Sharp of Nelsonville; a great granddaughter, Violet Frazier: a sister, Jo Ellen Fitzwater of Glenville, West Virginia; a niece, Johana (Jason) McKitrick of Cross Lanes, WV; a nephew, Reagan (Melissa) Fitzwater of Formington, WV as well as many beloved cousins and in-laws.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, George E. Walton Jr.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Rev. Garry Dickerson officiating. Interment will be at Connett Cemetery, Athens County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6-8 P.M.
