Franklin T. James

April 4, 1950 — June 10, 2014

Frank T. James 64, of Nelsonville, OH. was called home on the morning of June 10th, 2014 to be with the Lord . His final days were spent at home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends after a year long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born at home in Bone Hollow, Nelsonville, OH on the 4th day of the 4th month in the year of 1950. He was the youngest son of Robert “Bake” and Garnet Auflick McCollister. He was a graduate of Nelsonville-York High School in 1969. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Army Signal Corps. He was a proud Vietnam War veteran and patriot. He was often seen with a poppy in his hat. He was a life member of the Nelsonville VFW post #3467. Thirty-four years ago this month he married his soul mate, best friend and true love, Cherie K. Hewett James on a sandbar in the Hocking River. Together they raised three children. He operated the family owned East End Carry Out in Nelsonville. Frank was known and loved by many. He was a kind hearted man, always with a smile on his face and willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. He truly lived his life to the fullest. He loved adventure, there was nothing he wouldn’t attempt and has the scars and mended bones to prove it. He loved the outdoors and shared this love with his children. They were raised canoeing the Hocking River, hiking, mushroom hunting, fishing and bridge jumping to name a few. He was known as a man filled with vast knowledge. His granddaughter, Addy referred to him as a “sage”. His friends playfully referred to him as Bullwinkle- Mr. Know-it-all.


As well as his wife he is survived by his oldest daughter, April James and her fiancé Keith Sears, son Michael James and fiancé Carla Balch, youngest daughter, Tracie James and her fiancé Jordan McCoy. His blessings; granddaughters Addy Hankinson, Lillian Beougher, Aaliyah James and grandson Keifer Sears. His only brother Jamie (Marion) James, nephews Nathan and Carson James, all of Oklahoma. Aunt Blanche Irvin, uncle John Auflick and many cousins too numerous to list. His mother-in-law, Audrey Hewett, sister-in-law, Debbie Tabor, niece, Teah Hewett. Special mention of lifelong best friends, Tim Pancake, Will Dresher, Joel Hankinson and special cousin, Kathy Auflick.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, James and Blanche Matheny Auflick, aunts and uncles; James Auflick III, Bob Auflick, Roy and SylviaMae Auflick Bond¸Andy and Margaret ‘Red” Auflick, Rod and Joan Auflick as well as a lifelong best friend, Joe Romine.

The James family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Kimes, The OSU Medical Center and Lanfair Rehabillitation & Nursing for the care they provided.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Rev. Ernie Perkins officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 5 PM until the time of the service, at the funeral home, where a Military Service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard at 6:30 PM.
