Catherine E. Hammond

Catherine E. Hammond, 63, of McArthur, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born December 4, 1950 in Big Rock, Virginia, daughter of the late Jessie and Marlene Atwood Hackney. Catherine was married to Arther Hammond, who survives.

Catherine worked for the Vinton County School System for 24 years and was currently the secretary for West Elementary. She was a member of Ministries @ The Well in McArthur.

She is survived by her sons, Arther (Kimmie) Hammond Jr. of Hebron, Kentucky and Jeff (Jaime) Hammond of Centerville; daughters, Diane Berry of McArthur, Amy (Dustin) Ward of McArthur and Jenny (John) Wells of Wilkesville; grandchildren, Allie, Geena, Kelsey, CJ, Nate, Logan, Jacob, Lethan, Griffin, Jarrett, Katie, Mackenzie, Jessica and Cole; a brother, Tom (Char) Hackney of Logan and sisters, Brenda (Tim) Woltz of McArthur and Crystal (Steve) Barker of Ray.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Hackney.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Pastor Jesse Reynolds officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 4-8 P.M.
