John P. Hocter, age 71 of Radcliff, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. He was born March 10, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles L Hocter Sr. and Laura M. Lowe Hocter. He was married for 50 years to Shirley E. Dennis Hocter, who survives.
John was a truck driver for Wilson Freight, a true “self-taught” mechanic and retired from Ohio University in 2006. He was a lifelong member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski; Wellston Knights of Columbus #1341; Sons of the American Legion; and the Teamsters Union.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughters Kelly Hocter, of Nashville, TN, Kara (Scott) Dunfee, of Athens, and Kimberly Sue Hocter, of Radcliff; 7 grandchildren; brothers Charles (Theresa) Hocter Jr., of Centerview, MO, Robert Hocter, of Radcliff, and Danny (Faith) Hocter, of Arab, IL; sisters Sue (Mike) Neri, of Hamden, Mahala (Calvin) Hayes, of Little Rock, AR, Michelle Muncy, of Radcliff, and Judy (Robert) Sorrell, of Wellston.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jane Cochran.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 119 N. Second St., Zaleski, OH with Fr. Joseph Trapp Celebrant. Interment to follow in Radcliff Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with a Wake Service at 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
