Francis E. Bacus

Francis E. Bacus, 81, of Nelsonville passed away at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Chillicothe, OH on December 11, 2014 after an extended illness.

Born in Hocking County on October 11, 1933, he was the son of the late William E. Bacus and Clara Bacus Hashman.

A graduate of Nelsonville High School, Mr. Bacus was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, #557 of Trimble and was a member of the American Legion 229 of Nelsonville. He was the owner of the former Emerson’s Department Store in Glouster and a former employee of JC Penney, Luckoffs, and Hocking Technical College.

Mr. Bacus enjoyed working with his brother, Daryll Bacus, who owned the Top of the Caves Campground, boating and fishing.

Mr. Bacus is survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Harbarger Bacus of Logan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bacus was preceded in death by his sisters, Madeline Kapple, Bonnie Bryson, Linda Vickroy, and Rita Bacus and by his brothers William, Clarence, Robert, and Daryll Bacus.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with Rev. Rodney Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Radcliff Cemetery in Vinton County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, 6-8:00PM. Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:30PM Monday.
