Herbert L. "Sonny" Campbell

July 7, 1933 — December 17, 2014

Herbert L. “Sonny” Campbell, 81, of Carbon Hill, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born July 7, 1933, in Haydenville, son of the late Harold and Avanella Smith Campbell. He was married to Kay Christian Campbell, who survives, for 62 years.

Sonny was a United States Army Veteran from the Korean War Era and was a Truck Driver for Keynes Brothers. He attended the Carbon Hill Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and was a member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge BPOE #543; Nelsonville VFW Post #3467 and the Logan Mingo Lodge #171 F&AM.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Mike Campbell of Nelsonville; daughter, Sharon (Curt) Gail of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Heather (Wayne Breeze) Gail, Justin (Nicole) Gail and Jason (Jenny) Gail all of Nelsonville; great grandchildren; Devan Phillips, Garrison Breeze, Joanna Breeze, Tyler Smith, Peyton Gail, Camryn Courtney, Patrick Gail, Ethan Gail, Lydia Dotson, Casey and Kia Gusman; sisters-in-law, Joan Harris of Kenton and Betty Allen of Jeffersonville.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, David and Maggie Christian.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Carbon Hill Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Combined Color Guard. Friends may call Friday from 2-8 PM, at the funeral home, with an Elks service starting at 7:30 PM.
