Marie L. Prater

Marie L. Prater, age 95 of Hampton, VA and formerly of McArthur, passed away Monday, December 22, 2014 at Coliseum Park Nursing Home in Hampton, VA.  She was born November 22, 1919 in Kentucky, daughter of the late Miles M. and Ada L. (Slone) Slone.  She was the widow of the late Melvin Prater.

Marie was a member of Maggie’s Home Church in Dundas.

She is survived by her son, Larry (Peggy) Slone, of Vernon, AL; daughters, Ada (Raymond) Temple and Lana (Woody) Woodman, both of Newport News, VA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Ruby Tiller, of Nashville, TN;  nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Miles F. Slone; second husband, Melvin Prater; son, James Slone; brothers, Kay, Herman, Winston, Clyde and Burnard Slone; sisters, Myrtle Pratt, Marinda Slone and Ruth Pyck.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2014 at Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Elder Donald Mullins officiating.  Interment will follow at Elk Cemetery.  Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
