Mary J. Swyers

Mary J. Swyers, 94, of Corning, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Altercare of Canal Winchester. She was born July 19, 1920 in Jacksonville, daughter of the late Andrew Chute and Elizabeth Echstenkamper Chute Ley. She was the widow of the late Dale L. Swyers, who passed away in 1992.

Mary retired from Goodyear in Logan in 1982. She was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Corning and was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Corning.


She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Jack) Grubb of Canal Winchester, Suzanne Baird of Jamestown, Beth Pompey of Glouster and Denise (Sean) Brooks of Trimble; grandchildren, Julie (Gene) Roy, Stephanie Swyers, Jason Pompey, Frank (Julie) Grubb, Melanie (Mark) Heim, Jennifer (David) Sogers, Sarah (Steve) Turley, Rebecca (Greg) Levitt, Emily (Steve) Erisman and Quinton Brooks; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Susan) Chute of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Chute; sister, Cecelia Chute and a son-in-law, Mitch Pompey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church, 425 Adams St., Corning, with Father Jim M. Reade officiating. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Glouster. Friends may call at Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main St., Glouster, from 2-8 PM, Wednesday, with a Rosary Service beginning at 5:00 PM.
