Ashley Brooke Mercer

Ashley Brooke Mercer, 18, of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at her residence. She was born April 30, 1996 in Chillicothe, daughter of David and Theresa Saunders Mercer of McArthur.

Ashley was a freshman at Ohio University in Athens in the Scripps School of Journalism and attended the McArthur United Methodist Church. She was a member of the J-Fresh Program and Links Program at Ohio University and wrote for WOUB Radio and The Post. She was also a 2014 graduate of Vinton County High School.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Andrea Mercer and brother, Bradley Mercer, both of McArthur; grandmothers, Patty Saunders and Gerry Ryan, both of McArthur; great grandmother, Bernice Daugherty of McArthur and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ashley was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Robert F. Saunders and Vernon Mercer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Dr. Walt Goble officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
